Summary: Colonel (Ret) Mark E. Tate is the founder of Transcendent Consulting, LLC a business consulting, strategic planning, and executive leadership coaching company. Mark’s passion is helping individuals and organizations adopt and execute key strategies for rapidly leveraging opportunities found in new and emerging environments. Mark’s book, Sprint to the Mountaintop, serves as an illustrative tool for junior leaders to recognize and use the trail markers of accurate preparation, planning and execution, and continuous education to reach new heights of success in their professional careers and personal life.
As with many retired military leaders, Mark has devoted a great deal of his life to studying the traits of successful leaders. Recently, he set out on a journey to explore leadership lessons from the culinary industry. Throughout this time, Mark found that there are many similarities between lessons learned in the crucible of military environments and the experiences of chefs and restaurant owners throughout America. His unique approach to gathering leadership lessons not only highlight the importance of recognizing excellence outside the boardroom and c-suite, they also offer a refreshing insight for those who are embarking on their journey to become successful leaders in emerging markets and overlooked industries.
Mark holds a BS from Auburn University, an MBA from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and an MS from the United States Air Force Intermediate Service School. He is a credentialed Project Management Professional, a Certified Scrum Master, a Certified Agile Facilitator, and holds a Culinary Arts Certificate. During his 27-year military career, he served as a Logistics Readiness Officer in a variety of positions spanning seventeen assignments and deployments. Mark commanded organizations on three occasions, served as a staff officer in multiple combatant commands, and deployed throughout the world in support of contingency operations. His military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal.

Prospective clients should choose me to speak with their management/leaders because I have extensive experience in the military leading and developing winning teams. - Commander, 748th Supply Chain Management Group – Competitively selected through an Air Force Selection Board to lead 730 professionals in the acquisition, modification, and logistics support of weapons systems components. Delivered war-winning technology acquisition support and sustainment for one-third of the Air Force’s weapons system sustainment portfolio consisting of Space Command, Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) systems, 400+ ground based Intercontinental (nuclear) Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), 80% of the Air Force’s landing gear configurations, and secondary power systems for 2,570 aircraft. Managed $800M annual buy and repair budget through the Air Force’s organic depot level repair process and contractor acquisition/procurement strategy. Integrated Business Intelligence tools to assist the Air Logistics Center, Major Commands, and Air Force Reserve Component to formulate supply resourcing strategies involving multi-year decisions for weapons systems upgrades, modernization, and divestiture requirements as mandated by congressional leaders.
- Commander, 379th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron – Competitively selected through an Air Force Selection Board to lead 430, DOD personnel and contractors in the US Air Force’s largest Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron. Provided logistics support for 11K US and coalition personnel for the US Air Force’s largest combat wing. Fulfilled the DOD’s, force projection requirements as the largest Reception, Staging, Onward Movement & Integration and Expeditionary Theater Distribution Center supporting over 24K troops deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. Led infrastructure upgrades for the largest and busiest Government-Owned, Contractor-Operated fuels facility in the Area of Responsibility (AOR) supporting operations in United States Central Command annually with over 330 million gallons of fuel for 20K combat missions.
- Director, DLA Energy Strategic Communications – Responsible for human capital strategy and public affairs releases for 9 Region Commands in the United States, Europe, Korea, Japan, Bahrain, Guam, and 7 Headquarters Directorates.
Designed DLA Energy Service’s succession management plan and successfully integrated the plan into the DLA human capital management strategy. Synchronized leadership development and job promotion opportunities for 1,800-member workforce. Organizational liaison with Headquarters DLA for posture plan development and annual execution strategy review for the Energy Service’s global portfolio of energy products and services.
